For nearly three decades, SCD has supported children and young people aged 11–18 across 11 Nigerian states — building futures through education, mentoring, residential childcare, and community care.
Society for Community Development (SCD) is a community-focused organisation dedicated to supporting the wellbeing, development, and safety of children and young people. We work in collaboration with families, schools, and community stakeholders to provide guidance, supervision, and structured support.
Our services focus primarily on children and young people aged 11–18 years during a critical stage of their social, emotional, and educational development. Through structured programmes and supportive interventions, we help young people build confidence, develop life skills, and overcome challenges that may impact their wellbeing.
Every young person who engages with SCD is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion — and supported to reach their full potential.
Everything SCD does is built on a commitment to safety, empowerment, and community. These three pillars shape every programme, interaction, and decision we make.
The safety and protection of children and young people is our highest priority. Every activity, programme, and interaction is governed by a rigorous safeguarding framework that ensures young people are always protected, respected, and supported.
We equip young people with the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to navigate challenges and build positive futures. Our programmes promote personal growth, emotional wellbeing, and positive engagement with education and community life.
Lasting positive change for young people requires the involvement of the whole community. SCD works closely with families, schools, and community organisations to ensure young people receive consistent, joined-up support that makes a real difference.
Structured one-to-one and group mentoring that provides young people with the guidance and encouragement they need to navigate personal, educational, and social challenges.
Targeted support that helps young people understand their emotions, manage stress, and develop healthy coping strategies for the challenges they face.
Practical sessions that equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed to become confident, responsible, and independent individuals ready for adult life.
Motivating young people to engage positively with education through targeted encouragement, academic guidance, and goal-setting support.
Three decades of consistent, compassionate support for young people across Nigeria — and our work continues to grow.
